Prof. Dr Normah Omar is a member of two globally renowned professional accountancy bodies, Certified Practicing Accountants (CPA Australia) and Certified Management Accountants (CMA Australia). She was the founding

director of the Accounting Research Institute (ARI), a globally renowned Higher

Institution Centre of Excellence (HICoE) which is recognized and funded by the

Ministry of Higher Education, Malaysia.

She has built a global research reputation in corporate integrity, governance, and financial criminology. Prof. Normah has completed much collaborative work with government agencies, professional bodies, regulators, non-government organizations, and the corporate sector in Malaysia and abroad. To mention a few, she has completed research projects such as Corporate Governance Rating with the Malaysian Institute of Corporate Governance (MICG); Corporate Integrity Assessment System with the Malaysian Institute of Integrity; Compliance & Effectiveness of Anti-Money Laundering Regime with the Association of Malaysian Banks and Compliance Officers Networking Group (CONG) and Assessment of Non-Profit Organisations for Money Laundering & Terrorism Financing with the Registry of Society and Companies

Commission, Malaysia.

Her research has been funded by several international agencies such as the Japanese Society for the Promotion of Science (JSPS); the Turkish government’s Mevlana program; Australia’s Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT); The Association of Islamic Accountants of the Philippines; Tunisia Islamic Finance Association and The Ministry of Research, Technology and Higher Education, Indonesia to participate in international collaborative research projects with international partners.

Prof. Normah currently sits as a board member of several private companies in Malaysia.  As a board member, she is often consulted on strategic matters such as financial performance, audit, risk management, and anti-fraud management.

In recognition of her expertise, she has received various international recognitions such as the Most Influential Woman in Islamic Business & Finance (Cambridge IFA UK), the GIFA Lifetime Leadership Award by Global Islamic Finance (UK), and the Leading Advocate of Islamic Financial Criminology Research by IdBiz Consulting (UK). Prof. Normah is currently the Deputy Chairman and founding committee member of the Asia-Pacific Management Accounting Association (APMAA), an international professional association based in Japan.

In recognition of her research expertise and wide contributions to UiTM and Malaysia, she was awarded Professor Emeritus status in September 2020, a title she can use for life.  Since her retirement, she has written several books. Her latest publication, titled MENUJU PUNCAK, Kejayaan Dunia dan Akhirat, has sold more than 2000 copies since its launch on 21 January 2024. She is finalizing another motivational book, NEKAD, Mengubah Destini, which will be launched during the Kuala Lumpur International Book Festival
